The Mayor and city council of Bethlehem launched, on the occasion of Palm Sunday, a message of solidarity, love, hope and blessing from Bethlehem to the world, especially to Italy, in light of the high spreading of the Corona virus.
From the David Astori football playground, Adv. Anton Salman, the Mayor of Bethlehem, the priest of the Latin Parish in Bethlehem, and a number of Bethlehem city councilors, and the Director General of the municipality launched a message of solidarity, for the meanings of unity and brotherhood and solidarity the playground represent with the Italian cities and institutions with which the city of Bethlehem is connected with twin relations, friendship and cooperation, which exceed the number (36) cities.
"We send from the municipal council of Bethlehem and the people of the city of the cradle and the Palestinian people a message of hope and solidarity to the Italian people in these difficult days, hoping that this gloomy period ends soon and life will return to its normal course in peace and prosperity. We wish you safety and a Blessed Palm Sunday" said Adv. Salman.
As for Father Askarya, he said: “From the Church of the Nativity, which despite having its doors closed, we continue to pray for all of you at this holy time that Easter will be the salvation of the whole world from this epidemic virus.” Then all the attendees shouted "Stay home, Stay safe", raising the Palestinian and Italian flags, carrying palm fronds and blessed olive tree branches, and with the participation of representatives from the two groups of Scouts of Bethlehem.
It is worth mentioning that the works of David Astori's playground were finished thanks to the support of the Italian football clubs of Cagleri and Fiorentina with the coordination of "Assist for Peace Foundation" and it constitutes a sports entertainment facility for the children and youth of Bethlehem, hoping that the Corona virus crisis will end as soon as possible and life will return to normal in Bethlehem.
